FMM Workshop on Accident Investigation, Workplace Inspection and Reporting
Employers have a responsibility to manage and investigate workplace accidents and near misses, as stipulated under Regulation 13 of the Occupational Safety and Health (Safety and Health Committee) Regulations 1996. Proper investigation and reporting are essential to identify causes, prevent recurrence and improve workplace safety and health. However, Safety and Health Committee members may lack practical exposure to investigation techniques and procedures, leaving them uncertain about where to start, what actions to take, who to consult and how to prepare an effective report. This workshop provides practical exposure to the steps and procedures for accident investigation and workplace inspection, together with the requirements under OSHA 1994 and relevant regulations and guidelines, including proper accident reporting and recording, to support a safer and more conducive workplace.
By the end of this programme, participants will be able to:
- Manage workplace accidents and near misses effectively.
- Understand the accident investigation process and methodology.
- Identify the various causes and contributing factors of accidents.
- Conduct a proper and systematic accident investigation.
- Prepare effective investigation reports identifying causative factors and appropriate control measures.
- Implement appropriate measures to prevent the recurrence of accidents.
- Conduct workplace inspections effectively and identify potential hazards and areas for improvement.
